Proceeds from both the book sales and tour tickets will benefit educational projects of the Garden Club including complete maintenance of the Four Arts Demonstration Gardens and assistance to Pine Jog Conservation Education Center. A visit there is an escape into elegance. You can go there today and see for yourself. The Everglades Club is one of several stops scheduled on the Garden Club of Palm Beach's annual House and Garden Day Tour. In the early 1900's, a hermit known as "Alligator Joe," lived where the Everglades Club now stands. His only neighbors were the alligators which swarmed in the murky area.

Later, in 1918, Paris Singer decided to build a hospital for recuperating World War I officers. He asked Addison Mizner to design it. But the war ended shortly after, and instead of a hospital, a club was planned. People liked the idea and soon there were requests for apartments. Singer had maisonettes constructed east of where the main club now stands.
