SAVE 30-60 ON REGULAR DEPARTMENT STORE PRICES i tapping the feet. His eight-member Stoney Mountain Cloggers often danced on the Opry to fiddle tunes such as Black Mountain Rag and Old Joe Clark. The group made frequent appearances with the Charlie Daniels Band, dancing to the high-powered fiddle classic Orange Blossom Special as a climax to each show. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Mr. Smathers and his group performed with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans at fairs, rodeos and other appearances.

He made six movies and performed twice in New York's Carnegie Hall. The Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. Ben Smathers, whose agile legs and fast feet helpedspread the popularity of clog dancing during a 32-year career on the Grand Ole Opry, has died. He was 61. The leader of the Stoney Mountain Cloggers died Thursday of complications following open-heart surgery.

He had been admitted to Vanderbilt Hospital on Tuesday. Mr. Smathers, an Asheville, N.C., native, learned the dance as a child by watching an old man do it in the mountains of western North Carolina. A hallmark of Appalachian culture, clogging is basically keeping the beat of the music by TV producer Alfred Hollender PALM BEACH Alfred L. Hollender, a onetime producer of the game show Name That Tune, died Wednesday night at his Palm Beach winter home.

He was 77. Mr. Hollender was part of Gen. Dwight Eisenhower's psychological warfare staff during WW II and was director of Eisenhower's radio and television operations during the campaign for president. After the war, he worked for Grey Advertising Association, opening advertising agencies around the world.

He became involved with television show production, working as co-producer of the popular Name That Tune as well as Stop the Music and The $64,000 Question. Mr. Hollender was on the board of directors of the International Advertising Association from 1972 to 1976. He was a member of the Palm Beach Croquet Club board of directors. He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey and Peter, both of New York City; and two grandchildren.

The Associated Press MIAMI BEACH Nile Samples, a clothing designer for the Rolling Stones and the television show Miami Vice is dead at 37. Mr. Samples died at his home Sunday. Authorities said they were awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death. Mr.
