JFK Medical Center has joined the 1995 Healthy Heart Walk as the major sponsor for walks in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties. The American Heart Walk is a nationwide walking event held across America to support the fight against heart disease and stroke. In Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties alone, more than 5,000 walkers will participate in 10 walk sites from Boca Raton to Port St.

The contest, which awarded more than $2,700 in cash prizes last year, asks students in grades one and two to write on "I Make Peace In My Life By and asks students in grades three through six to write on "Making a Difference for Peace in My World." Essay packets are being mailed to every elementary school in Florida as well as to selected schools throughout the United States. Cash awards of $50 to $300 will be given for essays judged the best. These annual essay projects are sponsored by the Radiant Peace Foundation a Florida-based nonprofit organization designed to promote world peace. Deadline is Oct. 31.
