THE PALM BEACH POST MONDAY, MARCH 1, 1999 SL 4B Agustin Rivero, 84, poisoned last year Brush fire forces Gatorland to close Obituary Vie Associated Press ORLANDO An advancing brush fire forced Gatorland officials to close the theme park for about two hours Sunday as smoke and embers wafted over the attractions. About 300 people were ushered out of the park when evacuation orders were given about 11 a.m. The park was allowed to reopen after firefighters turned back the flames. "It was scary for little while there, but fortunately the fire department was able to control it before it moved into our park," said Mark McHugh, Gatorland's president and chief executive. The fire had consumed about 120 acres in Osceola and Orange counties by Sunday evening.

McHugh said the fire crept within about 150 yards of the park. No animals were harmed "It happened so quickly," McHugh said. "We turned on the sprinkler system around the park. We were hitting water on everything. We had the embers, but nothing in the park caught fire." he owned and ran a grocery.

Ownership rights to the market were taken away by Fidel Castro. The family was persecuted for their beliefs as Jehovah's Witnesses; Agustin Rivero 51, said he was jailed twice for refusing to join the Cuban military because of his religion. Justina Rivero, 72, was distraught and suicidal over her husband's Alzheimer's Disease and was convinced he had been abused by nursing home employees, court records show. Mr. Rivero, who could not speak because of his illness, was later moved to another nursing home, where he died, said their son, Agustin Rivero Jr. Justina Rivero visited him every day. "She (Justina) is very sad," the couple's son said Sunday.

"We have to accept that" he died. A doctor said Mr. Rivero died of natural causes, and an autopsy will not be performed.
