Jackson, a freshman from Galveston. showed the sweltering crowd of 61.826 a cool display of running, ball handling and passing. Jackson rushed 10 times for 109 yards and Washington carried 12 times for 86 yards.

Robertson, the man chosen to guide the Sooners' wishbone attack now that Jack Mildren has graduated, completed all five of his passes for 150 yards and one touchdown. Tony Adams. I'tah State's all-time passing yardage lead er, was limited to 12 completions in 29 tries for 104 yards and had three intercepted. The Aggies mustered only 55 yards rushing against the heavier Oklahoma line. The Sooners completely dominated the game with 30 first downs to only 10 for the losers.

Oklahoma punted only twice. Oklahoma did have trouble with butter fingers, fumbling 11 times and losing two of them. The second string backfield, sparked by freshmen Jackson and Washington, alternated with the starters throughout the game. Taylor's winning kick, with 14:07 to play, climaxed a Bowling Green drive that was kept alive even after a Falcon punt was blocked. Kicker Ed McCoy simply picked up the ball and ran 21 yards, turning disaster into a first dow n. That play the Falcons' longest gainer of the day set them up at their own 38-yard line and from there they drove for the field goal in seven plays. Purdue, one of the favorites in the Big Ten. could not get on track in its debut with the wishbone offense.

The Boilermakers lost the ball on fumbles five times, two of them resulting in Bowling Green touchdowns.
